The Tasmanian Mine Safety Steering Committee is reviewing the Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Regulations with a view to amending the existing regulations in the future.
Industrial Manslaughter

The offence of Industrial Manslaughter was recently introduced in Tasmania, bringing Tasmania into line with all other Australian states and territories. The new offence will attract maximum fines for corporations of up to $18 million and a maximum term of imprisonment of 21 years for individuals.
New Silica Section in Work Health and Safety Regulations

The Tasmanian Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022 have been amended to address the hazard of respirable crystalline silica, which has caused many cases of silicosis in recent years. Chaper 8A has been added to the regulations and it describes the control measures that must be put in place when working with crystalline silica substances.
